Summer is the season of fun and sun. It’s a time to spend with family, relaxing by the pool, or going on vacation. But with the world looking different than it ever has before, how can we have a healthy, happy summer? We’ve compiled our favorite tips you can start using today.

Give Yourself Permission for “Me” Time

Some people consider “me” time selfish when in fact, not taking time out for yourself is actually selfish. Taking care of yourself gives you the ability to care for others because it refreshes and invigorates you, improves mental health and mood, and helps you make better decisions. Even thirty minutes a day can make a difference, so find something you enjoy, whether soaking in a bath, getting your hands dirty in your garden, or working a jigsaw puzzle, and then give yourself permission to do it.

Be Good to Your Skin

Warm summer days are the best time to have fun outdoors. Unfortunately, sun damage causes premature wrinkles, spots, and even skin cancer. Use sunscreen daily, and wear a hat or carry an umbrella if you’re going to be out in the sun. Hydrate skin with a good moisturizer, and find products that improve your skin’s redox signaling and cellular health.

Practice Healthy Eating

The trick to eating healthy is knowing what you’re going to eat in advance. Organize meals ahead of time by writing down the pre-planned meals on your calendar and then buying the ingredients. When it’s time to start dinner, simply look at your calendar and voila…you’ll know exactly what’s for dinner and the ingredients will already be in your kitchen. While you’re at it, try incorporating an additional summer fruit or veggie dish into every meal, like in-season peaches, peas, or squash.

Expand Your Workout Routine

Simply put, routine is just that: routine. Boring. Old. Summer is the perfect time to break up the routine by choosing some new exercises to try. Sign up for a new class at the gym. Rediscover biking. Explore trails, hikes, or parks near you. Learn to play tennis or pickleball. By adding new, fun things to your workout, you’re more likely to stick with it because you won’t be bored, and if you can find a balance between fun and exercise, you are bound to be successful.

Don’t forget to boost your endurance by adding a daily multivitamin supplement to your routine. You can explore other ways to improve your endurance like using a protein supplement or finding a product that improves cellular health.

Try Something New

Whether this is learning a new skill like knitting, finally learning to surf, or exploring a new nature walk, doing new things often requires courage. Trying new things makes you grow and boosts confidence. It’s also the only way to discover a new passion, so set aside your trepidation and take the leap.

Have Deep Conversations

Deep conversations and happiness are linked. The beauty of having conversations is that you can either do it face to face, or simply pick up the phone and call your favorite person. Deep, meaningful conversations are only the touch of a button away, so grasp the opportunity. Not only will it make you happier, but also the person on the other end of the line.

Get Enough Sleep

Lastly, our bodies recharge and heal while we sleep, so even though summer nights are short, don’t shorten your sleep time. Be sure to find ample cuddle time with your pillow because getting enough sleep:

  • Improves mood
  • Strengthens immune system
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Helps maintain a healthy weight

Start taking the steps to have a happy, healthy summer today. Find joy in people, doing new things, and taking time to better yourself. Stay happy and healthy this summer!
